Local MP Greg Clark and Cassandra Hissey from Save the Children joined Store Manager Stuart Marlow to cut the ribbon and mark Morrisons in Royal Tunbridge Wells officially open.

We’ve had some great feedback so far – we hear you love the misters and produce on ice and the ‘Fresh to Go’ section is also proving popular. Deputy Manager Chris says the freshly made wraps, salads and hot baguettes are flying off the shelves.

Local MP Greg Clark, Cassandra Hissey from our charity partner Save the Children and Store General Manager Stuart Marlow will officially cut the ribbon just before 9am.

Everyone is welcome at the ribbon cutting – we’d love to see as many of you as possible.

There’s more colour on the walls, the checkouts are going in and the department graphics are almost finished. Even the infamous Morrisons clock is in place as the countdown to opening continues…

Over the next few weeks, the team will be working day and night to get the store ready. Once all the shelving and counters are in place, it’ll be time to start filling the shelves and stocking the store.

So as we start the countdown to launch, keep checking the website for more update pictures, reports and details about the opening morning itself.

We’ll start sharpening the store opening scissors…

Your Butchery Manager will be Sean Brown. He’s been with the company for seven years and has moved from our store in Hastings to join the team here in Royal Tunbridge Wells.

We’re going to have some really exciting new Store of the Future lines available at the butchery counter. These include ranges such as spinach and mozzarella beef pin wheels, beef and pork wellingtons, spinach and feta beef pin wheels and jarlsberg, parmesan and red pesto beef pin wheels. We’ll also be selling our traditional beef range.

All our fresh poultry, beef, pork and lamb is 100% British and our butchers will be hand-making sausages in store. They’ll be able to offer you a variety of different and more unusual cuts of meat, suggest cooking tips and give recipe recommendations.

Sean and his team can’t wait to get into the new store and are looking forward to seeing you all when we open.

The plans for the car park have just been approved by the council so we wanted to share these with you. Over the next few weeks, we’ll post some pictures to show you the changes.

Here’s some of the work we’ll be doing over the next few weeks:

• New road surface to the whole of Level 1 and part of Level 2
• Completely new and improved lighting to Levels 1,2 and 3
• Redecorating all existing painted walls within the car park area
• New directional signage and driver information
• New car park line marking
• New electrically operated security shutters

He’s got bags of retail experience; Stuart has been with Morrisons for 16 years and has been a Store Manager for the last six years in Caterham and Margate. He’s worked his way up through the company, joining as a management graduate and starting out as a department manager. Ironically, Royal Tunbridge Wells already feels like a second home because he worked at the store as an Assistant Deputy Manager under Safeway many years ago.

Stuart has clear ambitions for the store – he wants to deliver a shopping experience that is second to none with great customer service and value at the heart.

There’s one area in particular that he thinks you’ll love in the new store – ‘Fresh to Go’. Stuart says it really captures the imagination of the commuter and the family shopper who can pick up fresh soups, juices, salads, wraps, sandwiches and more.

At the moment, Stuart and the store team are concentrating their efforts on training and recruitment, as well as some specific Store of the Future training so the team can advise you on the new produce and offer food and wine matching if needed.

Even though retail is his passion, he’s a family man at heart. He’s been married for 11 years and lives with his wife and two daughters in Ashford, Kent. When he’s not on the shop floor running his store, you’re likely to find him in his sports kit running or playing squash and rugby. In fact Stuart’s ambition is to run a half marathon and… own a Porsche 911. So when you see him, you’ll have to ask him where he’s parked his Porsche…
